School of Classical & Contemporary Dance
The Youth Dance Programs at Northwest Ballet are designed to introduce children to a positive experience in dance and movement, in an environment that fosters a love for the art. No previous experience is required for our childrens dance education classes during the academic svhool year or in our summer programs.
Creative Movement ~ ages 3-5
Childrens Creative Movement classes at Northwest Ballet are fun and educational. Beginning ballet and dance concepts combined with imaginative play develop self expression and creativity in children. These very young dancers will be introduced to music, rhythms, and spatial awareness.
Pre-Ballet ~ ages 6-7
The Pre-Ballet classes at Northwest Ballet introduce children to basic ballet technique and vocabulary. Movement games and exercises provide the introduction of ballet as a formal dance form.Participating in our Pre-Ballet classes prepares the student for Northwest Ballet's classical dance program.
Performances ~ not required
Our young dancers are always encouraged but never required to commit to a role in our productions. Some child dancers and their families prefer to wait a year or so before participating in our annual Nutcracker and other performances.
